Vice President Andrew Johnson assumes the Presidency upon the death of President Lincoln
1868 Andrew Johnson is impeached
1868 Ulysses S. Grant is elected President
1870 Taft enters Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio
1872 Ulysses Grant is re-elected President
1876 Custers Last Stand
1877 Rutherford Birchard Hayes is inaugurated
1878 Taft graduates with a B.A from Yale University
