Supreme Court Justices of the United States listed from 1789 to the current justices serving. John Jay was the first Chief Justice in history and was appointed by the first U.S. President George Washington. Currently serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme court is John Roberts who was appointed by the forty-third President George W. Bush in 2005. The nine justices appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court to represent the Judicial Branch of Government are lifetime appointments.
