1860	CIVIL WAR TIMELINE OF EVENTS
November	Abraham Lincoln is elected President of the United States
December	South Carolina secedes from the Union
1861	CIVIL WAR TIMELINE OF EVENTS
February	South Secedes. Six additional States secede from the union, creating the Confederate States. Mississippi,Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisianna and Texas.
February	The seven Confederate States create the Confederate Constituion. Until elections could be held, Jefferson Davis was named President
March 4	Abraham Lincoln is Inauguarted
April 12	The Confederates fire upon the United States Fort Sumter, starting the Civil War
April	Four more states secede the Union and join the Confederacy. Richmond, Virginia was named the Confederate Capitol
June	The Western Counties did not want to secede and re-entered the Union. Officially becoming the new state of West Virginia on June 20, 1863
July	The first Battle of Bull Run
July	President Lincoln replaces General McDowell with General George B. McClellan
July	A blockade of the south by the Federal Navy begins

Aprpil 9	General Robert E. Lee surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant. Also seated at the table of surrender negotiations was General George Armstrong Custer having been the first to receive the white flag of surrender from the Confederate Army
April 14	Abraham Lincoln is Shot at the Ford's Theater by John Wilkes Booth
